Generality
The
various technical, creative, human, financial,
etc...operations, needed for making a motion picture
film, must have as a result: images and sounds recorded
on a photographic support: the film.
This support is a tape of film, 35mm wide for
professional films, rolled up in the shape of a reel.
This reel is projected in a movie theater with a
projector.
A complete projection reel, makes 600 meters length in
35mm, which represents 20 minutes of projection. A
full-length film includes at least 5 reels.
One
can directly see on the film, a succession of images -- frames --, as well as the sound
track in optical form -- optic track.
In
the begining, the images and the sounds visible on the
film were
recorded from a reality which existed at one real time
and in a real place; this moment is the shooting, and the place is the set.
We
will not speak in this course about the particular cases
where the recorded image does not come from a preexistent
reality: case of opticals, animation, virtual images,
etc... As for instance of the spectacular possibilities
permitted by the wedding of the cinema and data
processing.
